I was playing with widgets (it's a mac thing) and I came across one from Hot or Not... remember that? yeah, it's still around... yeah, I had a picture up two years ago... yeah, I updated it... I'm awesome... it may take a while to change the updation (updation? I like it). I showed my sister the site and she said, "oh yeah, I haven't been here since, like, before I had a laptop." Exactly.

anyway, sorry about that, back to famous people, oodyHarrelsonWay was next door because irginaMadsonVay is staying at my parents place. We (bro and sis) showed him and his entourage around the house, shot some darts, played some pool, drank some beer, etc. and before he left he invited us to his birthday party last night. We went and hung out with him and ohnC.ReillyJay and the likes of a pro wrestler turned governor. It was entertaining. Our Ex-Gov was kind enough to listen to questions asked by my on-his-way-to-a-Dr-in-philosophy-and-literature friend. "The Body" has been well trained in the art of deflection.

and one last note, I forgot to check Rotten Tomatoes (best movie review site) before watching a pop movie... mental note to self - just because a pretty girl was good in one movie doesn't mean another movie with her and explosions will be good.

What makes an adult?

It used to be that once you were married, had a child, a job, and a home you were an adult.

What is it now? Age? 18 years an adult does not make. 21, hah! After college? A job? The dictionary states:

1. One who has attained maturity or legal age.
2. Biology. A fully grown, mature organism.

huh, maturity... I like that one. How does one find maturity?

I tried making our apartment more mature; more art on the walls - fewer posters, my bed is off of the ground, we have matching silverware and plates... I have an office, business cards, a website... I can cook and clean and do laundry (though I may prefer not to do those things)... Why do I feel like something is still not "adult"?

I think the next step is taking care of my body, I have forgotten about that for a couple of years. I need help. I used to be physically active, I am calling out for activity partners. Ideas include (but are not limited to):
Sports: Tennis, Swimming, Biking, Frisbee, Sailing, Squash, Golf, Yoga.
Camping: Canoeing, Hiking, Mountain Biking, Skiing.
Eating: Having dinner parties, cooking for each other, wine tasting.
Arts: ... ok, I've got the art viewing/listening/watching down pretty solid, but we can always trade...

I'm serious about this, I have a car, rackets, suits, yoga mat, mad water skills, and a big kitchen. I want to own myself again but I need the regiment and entertainment that others provide.

Who's in?

We can pretend to be adults together... or kids, whichever is more fun.

Lance Armstrong is a classy guy. He was 2 seconds behind in the overall score yesterday, and then he was in first. The catch - the guy who would have TIED him crashed with 1.5K to the finish line (the other guy may have even beat him if the team stayed tight and finished the race together). Lance saw the footage and decided that he didn't want to wear the yellow jersey (that's how you tell who is in first place) because he wanted to respect the jersey, the sport, and his fellow riders by not taking the jersey from the result of a crash.

Classy. Then the race organizers threatened to disqualify him if he didn't wear the yellow jersey, so he put the shirt on top of his own.

In other sports news NYC didn't get the Olympics. good, not surprising.

good (because good is never funny) - party was a smashing success. good fireworks, good food, good beverages, and very good people. I found out I have a daily reader (I'm awesome) thanks ThinkTanker! Most people survived the trips up and down the ladder, no casualties that I know about. Now it is time to finish the keg.





bad - went to eat at a diner in williamsburg, I thought to myself, "myself, you should put your iPod away, nah - your only eating for a little while." upon the return to the car we noticed glass on the street... then in my car. "myself, someone stole your iPod." I looked, yup. poop.

so in the past half year:
Car was hit and run - $2,400
Side view mirror was hit - $450
I hit a car - $800
Mountain Bike was stolen - ?
my other bike was stripped to the frame and two wheels - ?
parking tickets - $a lot.
and now window, iPod, charger, iTuner, crap.

dumb news. So, that new "Freedom Tower" will be built - 1776 ft, which is cool, and the tallest in the world, awesome. However, "The revised tower design has the same amount of commercial space, one-quarter of what was lost on September 11, 2001".

Why would you do that? We are on an island, there is no where to go but up. Were the towers empty in Aug, 2001? No. Will they be empty when it is finished? Of course not. 1/4. Take the room you are in right now, imagine it being a fourth of the size... Lame.

And Canada, what hippies live up there? Marijuana is ok, gays can get married, health care for everyone? Dirty commies, pinkos, Hippies.

Chillin' in Newark, went to his old 'hood, picked up some more of his boys, went to the cemetery, shot them all there, went to an abandoned house, I shot them there as well, went to the studio, hung, went to Ikea, and now I have a desk. I like it.

I enjoyed playing with cliche.

I gave to two beggars today, they were very polite. I left my wallet in the car and got a free lunch.

New London, CT

I went to Connecticut College. Unlike most of my classmates, I actually made it INTO New London. I even lived there during my senior year (only 1% of camels - yes, camels - live off campus) and I remember that there was a big stink over the eminent domain of property that was to be used for the "public good".

People in New York City are learning all about this with the new stadiums etc. New London is beautiful... a beautiful shit hole. Over the past 7 years the fight has gone up the courts and, amazingly, made it to the supreme court. The supreme court voted to kick out the families and put up the hotel. Tough, I don't know... all of my local friends were VERY anti-developlment. Then again, they were all dirty hippies. New London was/is dying. Phizer put up a gigantic plant, and that might help, but the place has potential.

Like I said, I don't know. I was there - I think it would help the area. I feel bad for the families. The part that gets me is, "New London officials countered that the private development plans served a public purpose of boosting economic growth that outweighed the homeowners' property rights, even if the area wasn't blighted." Even if it wasn't blighted... yeah... it was a nice little area, don't you think they could have found somewhere else in that dirty little town? Weird.

Dissenting O'Connor wrote. "The beneficiaries are likely to be those citizens with disproportionate influence and power in the political process, including large corporations and development firms." Which is probably true... however, didn't those same people build many of the great structures and cities that we have now? Monuments, parks, libraries, freeways, metro systems, railroads (ooop, we won't talk about railroad swindles)... but my point is - it does good for the future and for the masses. Can you put a price on that? How much do you give to a family that has been living in the same house for generations? Tough one.

Sadly, I don't have all the answers - I wish I did (I also wish I was omnipotent) but that isn't going to happen. So I say, timidly, I hope it all works out, I think it will, the town needs some help.

weekend review.

This weekend I went to a rock show of a friend from kindergarten. I went to school with her for more or less 13 years, then we never really talked after that. We just didn't have much in common. She was "alternative" I was not. I didn't get it. Now I do. She is very cool now. It happened to be her birthday as well - and she was excited because she was playing close to her house... which happens to be close to my house. I rode the bus with this girl 20 years ago 1,400 miles away - now she lives 2 blocks away. Funny.

I also went to a party with film / tv folks in Park Slope. The park is sort of growing on me, don't tell anyone because it is a pain in the ass to get to. After that - Jenga in the city.

Today I saw a session at the actors studio, it was really good, almost good enough to renew my faith in american theater, almost.

Celebrities are funny, not only the idea of them, but getting married after a short while... let's see, how long do we give Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes? (they are getting married, and I found out on BBC before CNN, weird... maybe because it happened in Paris, and we don't like the french, duh)

Wow. I found one of the best, if not THE best, website ever. It is the internet archive, and more specifically, the Internet Archive of Moving images. What this is, is a dumping/storage ground for anything a person wants to put there, it is not only home movies, but real news, full length old movies, and classic cartoons. sweet. What they say,

Our goal in digitizing these movies and putting them online is to provide easy access to a rich and fascinating core collection of archival films.
