"I copy that" is walkie-talkie talk for - I understand, will do, gotcha, ok, alright, yup, uh-huh, and much more depending on the inflection of the voice.

So close, so much...

It hopes to be an... eventful month. At a minute after midnight I will begin writing my novel - a novel that has no characters or storyline... only style, mmmm style.

I have to get a visa to get into Paraguay after spending next week in Argentina with my brother. I have to book a ticket back to Minnesota for thanksgiving.

oh, and I have to Plan my trip to Argentina... I thank, in advance, the authors of lonely planet - and my father for the lifetime membership to International Youth Hostels.

oh, oh oh... I should probably brush up on my spanish - any hints? Sure, I "studied" it for 13 years, but that was 8 years ago. I can understand the gist of most things and get my point across with grammatically incorrect phrases and hand signals - I just forget a lot of the vocab... maybe because I cheated on the tests - may this be a lesson to all of you.

May go to the halloween parade this evening, I was already Paul Bunyon on Saturday, weee.

dorkin' out.

So... I spent a lot of money on two new lenses.

They are awesome... what this means for you, loyal reader - is cool new shots, like my new fisheye...

subway fun

The playing with the lenses got me to reading up on how to clean my camera - which very quickly led me to other questions and ideas surrounding my camera... I then spend four hours rereading my camera manual - cover to cover. I don't think I have ever done that before. I dorked out hard core... on a friday night... awesome.

Next dork project - cataloging all of my books and video on a great program called - Delicious Library. All you do is scan the barcodes of your books and DVDs with your webcam and the program creates a visual and factual library on your computer. You can then check those objects out to whomever you wish and the program will set up return times and automatic reminder emails. Big fan.

and in other dork news, I am sure everyone has heard that sulu is gay... did you see the picture? it's awesome...

live long and prosper.

Falling asleep...

Sometimes it isn't so falling, sometimes it is like biking down a long shallow hill - as was last night.

I started thinking about my novel... Current title, "A Snapshot of an Artist"... I don't know if I am going to add "as a young man" - I think that might be a bit much.

It is going to be an adult picture book - not a graphic novel or anything... it is just going to be illustrated with the protagonist's photos as well. I think the photos of the people will just be their bodies, or maybe a detail - like a favorite ring or something... and those can be the titles of the chapters, or just separations or just on the margins. I may be adding something hard to something that is already hard... ah well.

OH, and I'll be doing it in Argentina as well... I guess my main character will be going to Argentina as well.

I realized I don't like doing headshots on rainy days - I like to shoot outside too much and I love natural lighting.

Today was jonah.

And before that was sara.

oh, and serious jonah...

I'm a Novelist.

Well, I will be a novelist on November 1st... that is when I start my 50,000 word Novel - I will finish on November 30th.

Why not?

You can see the new icon on the right of this page, and visit the organizers here.

Thanks Charles U. Farley for the idea.

I will take suggestions for titles, characters, and anything else you give me.

Wish me luck. Join us.

Midnight Madness 8 : Team Red : Champeens

Nice little weekend, although I slept through a great sporting event, sorry Vikings.

I started with taking some photos of my friend Sara.

Saw a band thing.

And then - and THEN, Midnight Madness.

Midnight Madness is an urban puzzle solving game. The starting location
of the game will be announced several days before it begins. The
starting point is not usually within the game boundaries. When you
arrive at the start, you will be given the game boundaries, written game
instructions, game control contact and technical information, perhaps
some useful oddities, and, of course, the first clue or clues.

Historically, clues, when solved, would reveal the next location where
the next clue would be located. Teams would race along this path and try
to be the first to arrive at a secret finish line. This remains at the
core of the game, but be prepared, because any thing can happen, there
may be more than one way to win.

When you solve a clue, you will receive a code word, most likely at the
location of the next clue. When you get this word, you will need to send
a text message containing this word and your team's password to the game
control text message server. This will start a timer. If you haven't
solved the next clue in one hour from sending this text message, you are
eligible for a hint. So it behooves you to send the text message as soon
as you get the code word. If you are working on more than one clue, you
are entitled to no more than one hint per hour. If you have already
received two hints on one clue, the next hint will be the answer. The
actual times of the hint timeout are subject to change and will be
announced at the start.
Last year the group I was with didn't finish. This year we won. Team Red - the victors. I believe we started around 10pm in the pouring rain and finished around 7:35am.

It was very much a team thing - we split in groups we did our things - constant cell phone conversations. The clues were hard and each person usually had a different way of looking at it or adding to a thought in process. Here is a clue, good luck -

Here we are in the rain-

and the win.

Midnight Madness 8

(I'm going to work on this shot - I should have used the flash, but it was dawn and I wasn't thinking quickly enough... photoshop it shall be.)

There were many stories and revelations - but better told in person, or not at all. It is one of those, "ya had to be there" things. Join us next year to defend our title.

Quickly

Argentina is a go.

Memphis is a maybe.

Photos are fun.

News: Senators insulted by Miers' answers, DeLay has a warrant out for arrest, Cheney may resign... but he walks with a cane like president Bartlett, which is cool.

Ate free sushi. My friend won a contest from Cosmopolitan. Her and 40 of her friends. 34 of us drank through the "free" alcohol in about an hour. Sushi was great.

Eight.

Now I am thinking of the Fast as a "restart" or Reboot... I am starting from scratch, no addictions, no needs, just starting fresh... just like a computer - human-computer-guy-thing-needing-to-start-over. So, hungry me gets to have a clean slate and bring back all of those bad habits one at a time, the thing is -

I get to choose.

This fast is allowing me to choose exactly what I put into and do to my body. Very Exciting. Day 10 will be the hardest. Only because I said yes to working on the sopranos... I may pass out, ah well.

picture that has nothing to do with anything... I just took it today.

A week... oh how I miss you, week.

Weak. Jonah just made nachos... all I want in the world... mmm... 7 down - three to go.

The two biggest accomplishments of the week - Learning to love "Firefly" (and Serenity) and the 6th season of The West Wing on Bravo.

In other thoroughly inconsequential news - Unicef bombs the smurfs

Have a smurfy day!

I wanna six you up...

Today was ok. Though, I almost lost it right now from watching a commercial for an Oreo Blizzard type thing... oh oh oh oh oh... maybe I'll start a list of foods... mmmm... I just went to the fridge and opened containers just to smell them.

Hey, movies may be getting good again - it's the beginning of oscar season, wee.

in the news - that bomb... yeah there was no bomb.

There are these robots (really computers, but we're not splitting hairs here) that drive cars without any human assistance across the desert for the pentagon... SciFi here we come.

took this today, I like it, it's fun.

Hump day.

No, it's not as exciting as all that... just finishing day 5, over half done. I only had a single bowl of rice today. Tomorrow I shall be productive, two photo shoots and then maybe cleaning and the like. It's almost fun now, almost - I still haven't been overly social while on the diet yet... that may be interesting.

A lot of natural disasters lately. It is very sad.

Let me end with my "hump" picture from my train ride.

DO NOT HUMP

There. Now you feel better knowing no one will be humping a train, don't you?

The Fourth.

The first thing was smell. Loved smell. Then I got hungry. Then I needed taste. Then visuals of food made me crazy. Now it is texture - I need crunch, snap, smooth, rough, layers... anything... texture.

I
just
want
the feeling of
eating now.

French fries and a chocolate shake... best ever combo: hot cold, sweet salty, crunch smooth... chocolate starch? Anyway, it's really good. Someone please eat some for me... tell me about it, enjoy food for me, please.

day 3

I was slightly active today - just reorganized our public space. That's it. Now, now I am starting to feel the detox part of the fast. I miss chemicals.

oh, and if you were wondering why we went to Iraq, "President Bush said to all of us: 'I'm driven with a mission from God. 'God would tell me, 'George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan'.' "And I did, and then God would tell me, 'George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq...' And I did. "'And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, 'Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East.' And by God I'm gonna do it'."

And as everyone knows, we in NYC are all going to be bombed, ah well.

I'll be positive tomorrow, I promise.

day 2

"US Vice-President Dick Cheney has said that the US must be prepared to fight the war on terror for decades. Addressing US military personnel, he said that the only way terrorists would win was if the US lost its nerve and abandoned Iraq and the Middle East."

I disagree. I'm not going into it because the rice is making me week... but I whole heartedly disagree you power-mongering- fear-inducing-nut-job... who happens to have a whole heck of a lot of power.

And, oh yeah - there isn't enough money to torture prisioners, "The White House on Friday threatened to veto a $440.2 billion defense spending bill in the Senate because it wasn't enough money for the Pentagon and also warned lawmakers not to add any amendments to regulate the treatment of detainees or set up a commission to probe abuse."

And, don't pray too hard for that money because, "THE hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Church has published a teaching document instructing the faithful that some parts of the Bible are not actually true."

... as you can see, not eating makes me cranky... and food on commercials looks SOOOOO good.

it starts...

Today I realized that I haven't been hungry in years. Really, not for an extended period of time, why would I be hungry? If I am feel like I should eat something or I smell something good - I eat it. The last time I was hungry was when I was leading canoeing trips and we would all have the same portions of food. I was bigger than them - but still ate the same amount. We would have our snacks during the day, but I was also exercising for 10 hours a day.

Today I started a fast/diet. Brown rice and water for 10 days. I've never done any sort of fasting or cleansing - so this is my first. It is supposed to do this,
"Regarding fasting, fasting is a wonderful rest for the body, mind, and spirit. Fasting with water only, is the most effective and deeply cleansing form of fasting. The 10-Day Brown Rice Diet is the next best thing. Simply, brown rice and warm kukicha tea. The purpose of a fast is to minimize the foods you are taking in so the body is free to work on healing, without the continual effort that goes into digesting and filtering toxins from the many varieties of foods we eat. The more ingredients of foodstuffs in a healing diet/fast, the less effective it will be, and your body will be engaged in its usual work of intense digestion. You want to free your body to work on healing and cleansing. One of the ways this works is called autolysis. During autolysis, your body will go after eliminating those toxins that are built up in the system, whether locked in tissues, clogged in the intestines, or clogged in cleansing organs like the liver, kidneys, bladder, etc. Without minimizing food intake and using the least amount of food possible (warm tea and brown rice), it will be impossible for autolysis to take place."
So, I'll be an angsty dude for a while... but hopefully my blood will be nice and clean. I may even try to re-own my body.
