I had some good energy today, which is sort of weird because I didn't eat more than a cup of rice. I look forward to cooking some good stuff now. I wasn't hungry today.

though I am 172 now I'm sure in the next couple days I'll gain a bunch back, I usually never weigh myself.

today I went to dutch springs. it's an aqua adventure park... a SCUBA playground. there were too many kids underwater when I got there but I didn't get into the water until 2. By that time it had died down a bit.

The group I went with is more of a "sports diving" dive shop. they go out for fun and to get into the water. I want to be taught things, I want technical skills, I want to go somewhere most people can't go - this is why I will be doing most of my things through another dive shop that is mostly tech based. I really believe in safety first when you are doing something where you could actually die... even if it is simple - it's like buckling your seatbelt even when you aren't on the race track, even IF you are an amazing driver, you never know what may happen.

I also won't go with these people much any more because I thought we were going to leave the shop together and then I was asked if someone could hitch a ride in my car on the way back. so I rented a car. economy. they gave me a convertible. It was a great drive until I hit manhattan on the way back. 1 hour = 30 blocks.

We didn't get that deep because two people had already dove earlier in the day (the more you dive the more nitrogen that gets in your blood and the deeper you go the more nitrogen gets in as well. which is bad). I played in planes and buses and boats and fire engines under water from 30-50ft. it was a spring filled quarry. I really love it.

Jonah made his best pot of rice today. I really miss the act of eating. hunger doesn't mean the same thing, but I really want to eat.

today I went to a photography town hall meeting. there were about 600 of us and it was very motivating. I am going to start doing stock footage, and with that I can start shooting more for myself and for fun, things I haven't done in a while. I need some waivers/releases/contract thingies for models to sign.

I'm not hungry all of the time, just most of it. I drink a lot of water, and try to keep my mind occupied. I saw a double feature tonight - the brave one and shoot 'em up. they were both entertaining. I would suggest seeing them in that order because the brave one is "realistic" violence and shoot 'em up is hilarious... hilariously gory... which is a good thing.

I went into whole foods to buy uncooked rice, and I ended up getting some cooked brown rice to eat. it had some spice on it, almost cheating, but it tasted amazing. the smells were very difficult and wonderful in the store.

purple rain didn't need a kickstart on her way home. things are pretty good.

I miss eating and drinking.

today I rode purple rain (my vespa) for the first time in over 7 months. I also rode it for the first time ever - completely legally.

yesterday I finished off buying all of the scuba equipment I need for a very long time. it is some AMAZING equipment. I am going on a dive on sunday, tuesday I check out the rest of my equipment in a pool, and on the 29th I do my drysuit dive. it's very exciting.

as far as the brown rice... I am not very good at eating it. I don't like it. so... I don't eat much. I now weigh 180 pounds. I'm hungry. I could never be anorexic. I have a sensitive nose to begin with - but everything I pass smells SO good. feed me.

on a totally unrelated note, I am starting the brown rice cleanse/fast today. I'm already hungry. I may update the blog a bit over the next 10 days.

fact that may surprise you - I start the diet/cleanse/fast at 188 pounds. This is about the most I've ever weighed. hopefully this means a change is coming. maybe I'll even shave.

ten years ago my family of 5 people had one mac.

now we have 3 MacBookPros, 1 MacBook, 1 iMac, 1 iBook, 2 PowerBooks, 9 iPods (covering most generations), and 5 iPhones.

there are also 3 IBM thinkpads in the mix too, so we aren't totally flipped over yet. however, from this list the powerbooks are pretty dead as well as one of the thinkpads and 3 of the iPods.

I don't think I can calculate how many computers we have had in the past 10 years, but I would guess it is around 20 and probably 30 iPods (counting those replaced under warranty).

why didn't I invest in apple stock?

*the photo from above was taken two and a half years ago with my roommate jonah, I have gone through all of that except for my first gen iPod, which I have misplaced... I miss it.

today I took my first SCUBA class. I have been scuba diving 4 times before, twice on day classes and two times by me lying. I'm excited to do it legally. And speaking of legally - I will be getting my motorcycle permit and then my license this week as well. I will also be getting my eyes checked and new glasses, my first physical in 7 years, and having my first dentist appointment in 8 years. I have my 10 year highschool reunion next week and then the following week I will be shooting at 72 year old's wedding.

I'll probably be back in NYC on the 12th.

Midnight Madness on the 25th.

and then I have no idea. maybe I will choose where I will go by my myspace comments and which coast misses or needs me more - right now it is about tied.

now I must watch the tour de france, it was very difficult to avoid spoiler headlines all day.

aural memories

I am flipping through my itunes library and I realized that I have a lot of music that I haven't listened to in a long time, so I started playing select songs from different parts of my life.

for me, song memories are second only to smell memories.

I am in my geo metro, or my other geo metro, or in my condo in ct, or in the subway, or in my apartment, or in a theater, or in my dorm, or my bedroom, or my old ipod, or my tape player, cd player, waking me up before work, on the ride to school, in russia, with someone, missing someone, longing for someone, dancing, romancing, drinking, headbanging in 7th grade, whatever...

sometimes I try not to create connections with songs, but it usually happens anyway.

say, for instance, the song "alive" by pearl jam. one of the better rock songs of all time. I was listening to that on my bicycle on my way home from school the day I found out my grandmother died. Those two things will always be tied together.

Then there are also the disks that make me feel safe and sleepy. I use these when I travel, it settles me and makes me happy when everyone else seems stressed.

but most of all my songs are people in locations in specific moments in time, and that's sort of how I like to remember things... now, how to document it...

I will tell you about it, and I wanted to, too... but I haven't been at my computer long enough to post, it's been amazing.

anyway, right now I am in north carolina waiting on a plane to vegas then to LA... us airways was a bit late and I needed a new connection. on the good travel side, I called travelocity and they rebooked my car with a different company because my company wouldn't have been open. I have been constantly impressed with travelocity.

I am working on the play - getting insurance, rights, space approved, creating an LLC and bank account and credit account, and casting it. hopefully to be done in the two days before I go back to NYC.

my vespa, purple rain, is still under a cover because I don't have a license yet, so I have been riding my bike around town. I try to ride every day, I didn't today - oops. In the past week I have been hit and kicked a car.

don't worry they didn't even knock me down, but they did drive away, it was a nice hit and run.

I DID, however, watch cycling on TV today, that's cool, right? And then I bought some bike clothes... that counts as riding, right?

anyway, I'm going to do some play makin' stuff now.

And this isn't even an april fools joke, I promise.

blog gear shift - I'm making "I Copy That" to be more based on my projects and travels... and of course those other things thrown in. This is to keep me accountable... even if it is only to the empty tubes of the internet.

So, what I am working on now? you may ask...

1) A play I am producing in LA May - July.
a) I have to get the rights
i) letter should be sent by monday
b) I have to make everything OK with equity
c) I have to trademark our name and "slogan"

2) I am thinking of buying a motorcycle to use in LA and then driving it back across the country. Stopping in MN for the Fourth and then taking a Nicholson Family Trip to Alaska. I will then continue with my trip across the country. After the trip there should only be 2 states left for me to visit, Oklahoma and West Virginia.

I will be visiting whoever (or is it whomever...) I can, and taking photos along the way. I do need a theme, though. Sunsets, roads, animals, signs, backroads.... I don't know.

I am making up rules as I think more on it - like smaller roads are better roads, only travel in daylight, only ride 6-8 hours a day, and things like that.

that reminds me -

3) get a motorcycle license.

I'm going to try to write daily, let's see how this works.

A couple friends of mine work for Minnesota Congressman elect Keith Ellison. He is the first Muslim to be elected to congress.

I watched the Daily Show just now and saw an idiot interview him. My new favorite "journalist" (quotes included) is Glenn Beck. Please watch this embarrassing short clip.

oh, oh, oh - don't worry about Iraq, Glenn has looked into the good side of the things that have happened in Iraq - amazing. "Virtually no one had even HEARD of a cell phone..." amazing.

Once upon a time, my sister came out to visit me at college. This was before cell phones were widely accepted. I was told when she was coming by my mother. Somehow I got the date and time PM and AM messed up... don't know where the fault was, doesn't matter.

I went to a cast party. I got home, late, but still early enough so that I could get some sleep to pick up my sister in the morning. on my answering machine I found a few frantic messages from my mother and sister. She had been waiting for many hours at the airport.

Yesterday was my sister's birthday. I had planned an internet blitz - a full onslaught of birthday wishes. I wanted it to be in the middle of the day. I took a nap. I forgot.

My sister is a great human, and even better sister. I'm sorry for late birthday wishes, Pondie. Please forgive me.

This marks the secondy year of my bloggerdy. (here is the first)

whew.

shall we go back in time? we shall.

At this point in time last year I was in Argentina and then Paraguay with my brother. Whoh, it was back then that I realized I wanted to be a photojournalist... weird.

Tookie died and I shot Ashcroft.

I had a really good weekend, full of photos, fun, and a girl that didn't work out.

I was annoyed by things. including the Metro Strike.

I went home for Christmas.

There was new years and the immediate trip to hawwaii in my tux.

I bought my baby.

People took their pants off in the subway. and all of the traffic that happened after.

I realized I was from brooklyn.

I told you what some of my friends on my side bar are and how I know them and so on.

I made the switch for most of my internet names from seanich to icopythat.

I had jury duty.

I went on a bachelor party to Las Vegas... and I can't tell you anything.

I went to italy and some other places.

I had to clean out/kick out our cute but severely depressed roommate.

I went to my brother's prom.

June was nice, and easy... june was a good month full of jobs and games. July was not as cool.

August... August was a blur. there was the spear dance party and midnight madness and office pirate shooting. And the wedding - which I don't even have a post about... weird.

In september I went to LA, and it seems I took more photos than wrote. But I did write a bit about my photography.

I went to the ... life changing... ? ... Eddie Addams Workshop. I only use the question mark because it hasn't been very long yet, but I feel like I learned more in one weekend than I could have in a year of grad school.

I thought I would write a novel this month, but I didn't. I did have a little internet fame, though.

Right now I am getting over a cold during the rain (6 out of the last 7 days) writing on my new powerbook.

There is a lot of stuff I want to do over this next year. I'll let you know when it happens. I'll try to write more of it down too, it seems that I just take a lot of pictures and use that as my visual diary. So, keep checking flickr too, and I'll make sure that you are up to date.

Internet Famous

every now and then I get a little internet fame. My friend Brian sent one of my photos and stories from flickr to a site called Digg. now, this is my first digg experience, but it seems that a lot of people read this page. A lot of readers mean a lot of comments.

Internet bulletin boards are hilarious. This is the best one I have been to because you don't actually have to sift through all of the idiots to get some good points and conversations - as you are reading you can vote on the comments, essentially hiding the dumb ones. You can change your reading preferences and and the comments that enough other people have voted for will change what you read.

anyway, as of right now, 27,406 people have viewed the photograph. (it goes up by about 200 every 5 minutes.)

I'm going for the novel again this year... I think the trip to argentina slowed me down a bit last year - by "bit" I mean "to a painful, grinding halt".

"National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30."

what this also reminds me is that it has been two years of blogging soon. Man, I'm old.

The problems I encountered before- I am not a good writer... no, that's not fair... I'm... not... "good". no, that didn't come out well either...

I do not develop good characters.

I am more of a Vonnegutish style writer, so I am going to write like that... by "that" I mean, "any damn way I feel". I am just going to try and get the words out and then see what happens

I love the new feature in firefox that checks the spelling as you type in a web browser - as I am typing now there is a red line under "vonnugutish" and "firefox". if I "ctrl+click" on the word I am given spelling options. loutishness's and Firefox are the first options, respectively.

this is a god send for poor spellers like myself. Maybe I'll show you my childhood tests someday.

apple came up with a new upgrade for its professional photography software, aperture. it fixes a bunch of things, like the file storage problem I was having. it's a lot of work, but I finally may have all of my photos in one place and immediately searchable.

I am getting a new computer. anyone want this one? It's really good, it just doesn't run aperture> and I need it to run it when I am on the road or in "the field". So, I am upgrading to the brand spankin' new MacBookPro. It came out (and I bought it) on tuesday. it comes next week.

I'm back from the eddie adams workshop... no, my body is back - my mind is still somewhere upstate. It was one of the more intense weekends I have ever had. I am having a great deal of difficulty explaining it - it is sort of like the Sundance of photography - a learning and teaching and shooting weekend that has brought every major photographer to the barn in the last 19 years.

I mean, seriously. every famous photo that has moved you - that photographer was at the workshop at some time, probably multiple times.

It wasn't only about photojournalism, it was about the industry as a whole.

needless to say, I haven't even really gone through my photos, this is just one that I liked right now, it was taken at the monticello track. I was on the "sports" team with Bill Frakes as my leader. if you don't know who he is, google him, he is the top sports photographer in the world.

I have averaged about 3 hours of sleep a night for the past five days.

LA stuff

How was LA?

fine.

I really don't like going into it more than that... it just isn't a place for me, I knew that most of all riding in my taxi back to my apartment and saw the skyline of manhattan.

I was gone a long time - and I needed to be away from new york, but I learned LA wasn't it either. I will go back because there are some great people and great opportunities.

Everyone drives in LA. Now, I grew up like that... I guess, but it is different in LA, it is part of the culture, it's dumb.

The "scene" is a big deal. Who, where, and what you are matters, it is the way that things get done.

It is one of two major cities that are built around one thing. LA is only about the "biz" the entertainment industry. everyone works either in it, or for someone who is in it. Lawyers are entertainment lawyers, accountants are film/tv accountants, dentists whiten and straighten actors teeth, car salesmen are screenwriters, and so on. The other place is Las Vegas.

Girls are different. Beautiful, hot, tanned and toned... but, different. They are all, obviously, in the biz - but it is something else too. compared to NY girls they are very... smooth, like something you touch and caress while new york girls have more ... substance? something you can grab on to, something with attitude. I don't mean to be mean, it is just what I experienced most of the time - there are always exceptions to the rule. oh, and they wear high heels all of the time, because they can.

People get J-walking tickets. Seriously. Plural.

It is warm and sunny. I know this may be obvious, but I really like the seasons - it is jacket time here, I love it, the smells, so good.

that's it for now. I missed driving my vespa, skateboarding, cabs, good food - OH, food, seriously, FOOD... it is bad out there - unless you are only eating mexican or hamburgers. Why is that? Why wouldn't there be good restaurants everywhere? so weird. I missed sleeping on a bed, the familiar noises - there are new york noises and minnesota noises - I didn't get used to LA noises.

I'm sorry for this odd posting, I'm just trying to purge all of this stuff so that I can categorize it and move on and come back to LA in January with a clear, good head.

yup.

I need a vacation. maybe that is what today will be, a one day vacation. then I get to start planning for the eddie adams workshop... this means creating a portfolio, which is sort of a big deal, and packing. Now, this may not sound like a lot, but I am categorizing a lot of things into "packing and portfolio". like clearing off two hard drives, with hundreds of thousands of photos, organizing those photos and choosing, printing and binding them into a kick ass presentation. I also need to buy boots. I am very excited by this - all of it - but the boots part is very exciting.

I don't shop. I hate it... I think it is just the part that I am spending money on things that I will someday have to replace. So, the things I DO enjoy buying are things that will last a long time, or I will use a great deal. Things like my computer, or camera, or vespa, or bike, or bed.

Growing up, I went canoeing for a month or so every year - I would need to shop for the things that would need to keep me alive, literally. My paddle, leatherman/gerber, boots, and rain jacket were the most important. I spent hours on each of these things. My mother loves to shop - she hates to shop for these sort of thing, it was funny how that worked out.

I still have my boots and jacket from 10 years ago. They are still awesome. I have lost or broken a paddle and knife or two, but they were good purchases. My new boots need to fill another purpose - they need to be flexible, comfortable, and waterproof. These are new categories, so I need new boots.

anyway, weird post, maybe I'll write another.

EAW Homework Assignment

My first assignment for the Eddie Adams Workshop is this:
One photograph of you. One paragraph about where you are. Another about where you are going. A third about how you got here. Three of your favorite photographs.

Where am I? Literally - LA, which is a change for me. Usually I am in NYC, but now I am working pre-production on a play. This leads me to the figurative part. I am in change, in flux, open to trying anything that looks exciting. I do really well with tangible goals and a loose set of rules. I make money by taking actors' headshots, photos for theaters, and other random events. I love making things through observing and documenting - I have found a perfect fit with photojournalism by combining my skills and ambitions.

I want to get paid to document things, hopefully important, life changing and challenging things - but day to day, exciting, and beautiful things is just as much fun... so, I guess I'm going to do that... I just don't know how.

I think my path here is a little different than everyone else's. I grew up in Minnesota and learned to love the theater, performing, and the outdoors. I went to school at Connecticut College and graduated with a degree in theater and a minor in everything and nothing. I loved to travel and move and build and discuss and read and anything else I could think of. I worked at a theater school, I worked as a producer on a music documentary in PA, I temped (secretary, receptionist, data entry, whatever), I moved to NYC and directed some shows, was a carpenter, and then I worked on Film and TV for a couple years... then I started playing with a camera. I saw my friends pay over a grand for mediocre photos and realized I could do that better. I bought an DSLR and taught myself how to use it and used flickr as my classroom. I saw an art exhibit on Pulitzer winning photos, made some friends with AP photographers and they pointed me in the direction of the workshop.

My favorite photographs change with my mood. Being in LA this shot taken at the standard pool in hollywood after a long evening explains the lifestyle.

This last shot was a BBQ in Asuncion, Paraguay. There were wood coals he was burning with the exhaust of a vacuum. The father is an air traffic controller and that is why he is wearing the uniform. The other man was someone they hired to cook the meat so that the father could be with the family.

I'm looking forward to learning a great deal from everyone at the workshop - you can ask anyone I know, I've been talking about this for months. My professional site isn't as well kept up or as professional as it should be, but I do post random things fairly frequently to my flickr account. true, it won't be dead for many years - but the rush is wearing off. many of my friends have stopped blogging, and more have slowed their blogging - sure there are always new ones popping up... but how long will they last?

I've realized the long living blogs have a clear purpose or through line - I shall do that with this.

I am going to give chad updates about once a week, where I am, what I'm doing, and links to pictures. I think I am going to start a photoblog where I actually comment on the stories of my pictures, which will be different than flickr, we'll see.

As for now? whew. LA is a scene. sunny scene.

I arrived, watched a 300 dollar haircut, went to a band rehearsal then to work on the gallery space and party. Friday was all preping for the release party, and then having said party. Saturday was about spending time in a pool. Sunday was social - tea, and traveling around to venice. Where I spent my monday surfing and skateboarding and then back to west hollywood for drinking.

Now I start organizing my photos, and producing a play.

whew... umm... I hurt everywhere.

On friday afternoon I traveled to connecticut for the "spear dance party". It is a house in the middle of the woods with a dance floor and tent. I danced until 3 in the morning. We then had a large slumber party where little more than 2 hours sleep was had on the floor. In the morning there was clean up, which turned into afternoon of playing with water and food. I hitched a ride with Jonah down to the hudson river and got on a train back to the city and napped a half hour. The responsible thing would have been to get some sleep. I went bike shopping. The first store I went to was closed, so I had to find another. I test rode a bike and purchased it. I went home and napped for an hour - It was now 9:30 pm (3.5 hours sleep). I went to midnight madness.

at 10 pm on Saturday I arrived at 11th ave between 14 and 15 in that little park. I was exhausted. The game started. (the game is a combination scavenger hunt and problem solving puzzle for a team) I became in charge of the scavenger hunt part of the game. now... I thought I wanted to go into details of the game, but I am too tired and need to do other things, so I will sum up what I did by location. I stayed in the park for an hour or two, went to 20th btw 10th and 11th for a few hours, went to starlight diner on 34th and 9th for an hour went to the pennies (I have no idea where that was... wow.) I worked on this problem for about 4 hours all around the place - got held up on 18th btw 9th and 10th. went to 23rd and 11th for an hour, then back to game control on 20th for the rest of the game. There I became friends with "game control" the creators of the game and worked hard to get our team as much information as possible. we were in the lead for the last half of the game and got stuck on the last clue. we came in second at approximately 2:00 in the afternoon.

I then watched "my super ex-girlfriend" after a shower in a hotel work out spa. I tried to watch "pirates" but I was falling asleep. I biked back to my house and passed out at 9:30 pm.

that's a 57 hour period with 3 and a half hours of sleep.

Now I have 4 photo shoots, a wedding, and rehearsal dinner this week.

AND poison ivy on my feet, I just want to go back to bed for a while.

I want to be able to fly a plane, jump out of it over the water, scuba dive toward the shore, surf the waves, and skateboard home.

I'm working on the skateboarding right now. The lesson I learned last night was to be careful when skating home at night while drunk. I am very good at falling - I think it was all of the prat-falls I did in highschool and tumbling in russia.

since I took my love away... but nothing compares 2 U dear reader.

I have been scolded, I'm sorry. now on to what is important. me.

the job has been going well. I am getting very good at taking stealth pictures of beautiful women.

I went to a wedding.

There was a bachelor party 2.0.

I have played a lot in a pool... it has been empty. I took some headshots, went to birthday parties, plays.

as for the other stuff - I still need a roommate and I decided to start running.

Now, I hate running. But as I was dancing the other day, I realized that it was raining - indoors. I was sweating more than any human being should ever sweat. I have felt more dry paddling through canada during a 3 day rainstorm. So, I did something silly... I weighed myself. It wasn't good. I blame it on my vespa riding - I haven't walked in months.

On impulse, passing a nike store, I went in and bought all of the toys needed for Nike+. Now my ipod will tell me how fast I am running, how far I've gone, and how long it is taking me - all while giving me motivational music.

Now, if you think this is cool or even if you don't... I want ask you to do some things for me.

1. Make sure I keep running.
2. Give money to my friends who are running for a reason.

Kate is running for her mom, who was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and she is running the Maine Half-Marathon to raise money and awareness for Pancreatic Cancer.

Christian is running a marathon for his aunt and the Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital.

When my mom got cancer I couldn't think of anything to do, it was a very helpless position. I knew that she would loose her hair - so, the only thing I could think of was to grow mine out and donate it... I probably should have ran... it was not a good look for me, but she got better anyway.

Really, give the cost of a beer, of a dinner, of anything you can.

I lost my driver's license.

I need a NY license - it needs to be a motorcycle license - I need to pay a bunch of tickets.

I slammed my right trigger finger in the door, it may be broken - probably not, but it hurts.

Our "keeper" of a roommate is dropping out of NYU and moving out. We need a roommate.

I had a very nice 4th of July Party. Thank you to everyone that made it out, and those that brought treats and ran the grill.

I've become a bad blogger. I am going to look for new alternatives. I have become a bad flickrite as well. I would like to find something that combines both - big single photos with words. I want something simple, pretty, and free. (even a better code for blogger that would allow for larger photos would be nice)

until then I may be a bit lazy these next few weeks as I try to focus more on my career as a photographer. My new projects could be really cool.

sleepless, at 3:00 am, this morning, I figured out the most wonderful and, seemingly, obvious photo project I could do.

I may have been awake because I got another ticket on my bike, because I have been staying up too late, because of a girl, because of sounds of mice, because of neighbors, because of general work angst, because of poor eating habits... whatever the reason - I now have a reason. I have a museum exhibit and a book.

a really good book. a smart, touching, funny, scary, beautiful photography book.

I spent the last 20 minutes googleing it, to make sure no one has done it before... there is only one thing that comes close - but my project is from one point of view.

I don't really know if I want to tell everyone just yet, but you will know soon... I need volunteers. Just let me phrase it correctly.

this is exciting, though I will be tired tomorrow. Ah well.

I just learned that from my studio to home it is nearly all downhill. I could have guessed that, but being on a skateboard definitely reinforces that fact.

There aren't many competitive sports that I follow. I don't know athlete's names or stats... except for team discovery. I love the tour de france. love. complex, beautiful, exciting. the DVR is now going to be set for the bike races.

The DMV is evil. We all know that. I am trying to figure out how to get a motorcycle license, it's a unbearable. Let me show you what the DMV says about drinking...

7 drinks in 3 hours would have at least 4 drinks remaining in their system.

ok, the white house briefings - they either make me mad or... confused - but Tony Snow's first briefing, very entertaining. It starts with him walking in to no response, he said " I feel so loved." welcome, tony, welcome. Don't worry, I know you won't cry. You'll just get close. oh, and don't use the term "tarbaby" in a press conference.

then there is the "new" video of a white streak hitting the pentagon to quell the "conspiracy theorists". Watch, listen, and read as CNN tries to prove that it was a jumbo jet that hit the pentagon. I still see no wreckage.

I really hate being "that crazy guy". I'll try and not let these questions bother me for a while. I'll let it go. let it go. let it go. I'll just let Tony entertain and try and dance the McClellan dance.

1. youtube took off my colbert videos - I am going to try to sneak them on this time.

2. Purple Rain and I had our first fall. (jonah "broke" her in). . . I was driving on the right in between the curb and cars and a cab door Right in front of me. I slam on the breaks, cuss, and slowly hit the door then the ground. I was going to be angry and the idiot who didn't look out of their door in the cab when I look up and see two scared kids. I tell them I'm alright and ask them if they are ok, they say yes. I look over myself to make sure nothing happened - nothing did, just a damp butt from the gutter. As I am getting up the kid says, "excuse me, can you get out of my way, we have to get out." I was aghast. I said, "what?" and he repeated the same phrase...

I got out of the brat's way. the mother then says, "It's not their fault... the door was open"... I don't even know what that means, I wasn't even mad - it happens... but "the door was open"... what? Just ask me if I'm alright and apoligize for your kids. I'm not going to sue you - just be a human.

Then she dragged her kids away from the scene as the hot dog vender and cabbie asked if I was alright.

Her place is a mess. I am not excited about this at all - the three foot pile of clothing, the art supplies and breakable things. I'm a nice guy - I don't want to break, sell, or hold her things for ransom... but she is a child.

what makes it worse - is that she is a lying, scared child. So, she has hidden for weeks and has continued to say that she will pay us tomorrow (for four months). I have to buy plastic gloves and lots of garbage bags. I will not be a happy camper...

... maybe slightly entertained by not having any remorse for digging through someone's personal things ...

but I will be very angry and I will use cuss words.

My roommate and I have discussed lost actress Michelle Rodriguez a couple times. He never feels any sympathy for any of the characters she plays. I think that is just part of the characters that she plays.

Now I think her unsympathetic demeanor is part of who she is, a whiny, out of touch Tress. (I call all annoying actors, male or female a "tress" or "tresses" - short for actress.) Anyone who would rather choose jail time over community service - no matter who you are - does not gain any of my respect.

I'm not a bitch, I just play one on TV.

I love traveling. We are in florence today and for the next two. I've had a lot of wine and taken a ton of photos. I don't have enough energy to upload them or to blog when I get in, sorry.

I am switching banks. I have had 6 personal checking accounts. The only one I was happy with got bought out and changed their rules. I am now with Greenpoint Bank-I mean North Fuck- I mean North Fork... I spend over 100 dollars a year on fines. easily. they are fired. done.

I started asking my friends, "what bank do you use, do you like it?"

People like Washington Mutual. I thought it was just a clever marketing campaign. I sort of made up my mind after visiting their site... but then... BUT THEN... I called (the national number on the website) to ask what I needed to bring with me to start a new account... and a human immediatly answered the phone.

Think about that.

When was the last time you called a toll free number and a person answered? I was shocked. I was all ready to start pressing 1 for english and yelling, "OPERATOR!" over and over into my phone with very good diction. I'm joining the revolution. done.

epic battle, part one

Jury duty.

It started with a notice. I responded. I received a second notice telling me to call a number the after 5pm on the day before the 2nd of March, 2006. I called and the recorded message told me that all jurors were required to come to the courthouse at 8:45am on the 2nd.

A very groggy chad shows up at the courthouse. I find the right room - it is a gigantic church like room - about 40 pews deep and 6 wide. Each pew can fit about 8 people scrunched in. people were not scrunched they were in molecule spacing.*

*I call it "molecule spacing" because of an example from sixth grade science, taught by Mrs. Edmuson (mrs. ed). We were all told to equally spread ourselves out in the room and stand still... this was an element or compound at its liquid state. We were told to "get cold" and all scrunch together (solid) and to "heat up" by run and bounce around the room (gas). I see people sit in the liquid state whenever they are surrounded by strangers -such as in the train (always a chair in between, some people choose to stand rather than sit between two people) and at urinals and the like.

This is when I realized that everyone in the room was a stranger, hundreds of strangers - people were automatically even and then, just as fast, created a society of strangers, all with their jobs and places. Talker, Joker, Reader, Fancy Dresser, Gigantic Painted Fingernails, Suit Guy, Helpless Non-English Speaker, Thug, etc...

We were then given out instructions to fill out our card that were were specifically told to fill out before arriving to court. Twice. We were told every thing twice. Sometimes three times, two or three times, we were told. Things were explained twice.

I was one of the very few 20 - 40 year-old white males.

We were told that there was another room that we could hang out in... in which we could hang out... in which our hanging out could be... anyway, I checked it out, there were better chairs and a window. At this point we were told to wait until we heard our name.

We were given a lunch break from 2-3. My choices were pizza, mcdonalds, burger king, sketchy burritos, and Friendly's. I chose friendly's. I chose poorly. you don't need any more details.

Like animals, we went back to our staked out temporary homes in the courthouse... because the humans go to what they know is safe.

My name was called and I went into a holding area for role call. We then followed the group to another room for jury selection. I followed in the rear... I am usually in the front or back of large groups - like tours, always in the front in tours - it is the best place to hear from. Because I was observing the back was the best place to view. However when we entered the Courtroom I sat in the front side, better view of all of the characters. They called more names.

My name was called sixth. I knew it would be called, I don't know why, I think I just wanted to be called.

We went to the jury box. I sat next to the fancy fingernail lady. She was phone receptionist for an insurance company, but I only found that out in a few moments.

Some of you may not know, but I am a bit of a dork... nerd even. I'm ok with that. It started with the back to back marathons of Star Wars on TBS back in the days of the late 80's early 90's.

Today is friday, and nerds know that friday is our sabbath. The SciFi Channel has all of its programs today. Not only is there a 90 minute battlestar galactica season finally, but there is a Firefly marathon in the afternoon.

I love DVR, I needn't watch any of it at its allotted time, rather, I can play today and watch at my shows later. They are very good shows. if you have netflix, itunes, or DVR watch the shows from the beginning.

Usually my calendar looks empty up until a week before. Now I am booked for the next month. I have jury duty mon - thurs for the next two weeks or so (it can't go any longer than that, I say so) and then I have a bachelor party over a weekend and then I am off to Europe.

It is a family trip to Italy - Tuscany and Florence. Then I am thinking of traveling on my own for a while (I mean, I'm over there anyway, ya got to) So I think I will go to Ljubljan, Slovenia then Vienna, Austria then Prague, Czech Republic.

Then it will be the middle of april. weird.

the first name I learned in baseball was Kirby Puckett. He was the team leader in two world serieses. The man ended a world series with a home run. he then got glaucoma and had to retire early.

He was a reason to watch baseball, collect cards, and want to play center field. I am not a huge sports watcher, but he was a true Minnesota legend.

Governor Mike Rounds on Monday signed legislation banning almost all abortions in South Dakota. The law will make it a crime for doctors to perform an abortion unless the procedure was necessary to save the woman's life -- but there are no exceptions for cases of rape or incest.
